Rescuing Public Media

For over 70 years, public media in the United States has served as an important educational tool, not to mention a treasure trove of social, political, and cultural history. Today, this vast collection of audiovisual material is at now risk.

In close collaboration with public television affiliate WGBH and the Library of Congress, I conceived, produced, and co-wrote a 2-part, multimedia feature story that offers site visitors a unique look into this extraordinary American archive.

I oversaw and managed the project from start to finish, procuring archival content and partnering with Mellon's front-end web developer and graphic designer to create each piece of content. I also produced and co-directed the video segments with an independent production company.

The feature was one of the most-read stories on Mellon's website in 2024 and continues to be repurposed as we examine the impacts of decreased funding on public radio and television.
